A Money Saving Guide for College Students

tdp students2 A Money Saving Guide for College StudentsDuring college, a student tends to take money for granted because of all the excitement generated by the activities, studying, and hanging out with friends.

You do not want to put yourself in debt by overspending.  This is why you need to keep a close watch over your spending habits.

Here is an easy to follow guide on how a college student can save money:

Make a list of your expenses.

By now, you should know how much money you expect to have for each week or month that you have classes.  The money that you will live on could be from your parents, part-time work, or a student loan.  After you have calculated your income, create a budget by factoring in your expenditures.

Write down your spending essentials like food, school supplies, and books.  This should give you an idea of how much you will have to spend each week.
Do not forget to save some petty cash for unexpected expenses.

Avoid using your credit or debit cards.
For college students, credit cards are an easy debt trap.  If you do not believe that you can be responsible, it is best that you avoid credit cards.  If you need a credit card, keep them handy for big expenses.

For small items that you need to purchase, it is better to use the cash that you have with you in order to keep yourself from overspending.

Eat well.

Eating out a lot might save time but it will definitely not save you money.  In the end, it is cheaper to buy groceries and prepare meals.  With the right meal planning, not only will you save money, but you will also avoid the freshman fifteen.

Treat yourself occasionally.

By following this guide and keeping your splurge purchases to a minimum, you can save yourself a lot of money while studying for college.  Who knows, you might even save enough to buy yourself a big item that otherwise, you would not even have had the money to buy?
